HISTORY OF NUNEATON BOWLING CLUB

Nuneaton Bowling Club is a private members Club, situated at 112a Higham Lane, Nuneaton CV11 6AX. The Club was formed in 1923 by a group of Crown Green Bowlers who rented their green which was in Coton Road, Nuneaton.

The green was subsequently purchased by them in 1936. However, in 1938 this green was acquired by the Ministry of Works and so land was purchased in Higham Lane, Nuneaton where the current green and Club House was constructed and later opened on May 29th 1947 and known at Nuneaton Town Bowling Club.

In order to pay off various costs incurred in the purchase of the Club, the frontage onto Higham Lane was sold as building land on which a number of bungalows were subsequently built.      This paid off all debts and left the Club financially solvent.

To-day the Club has a thriving Social Membership, a Ladies Bowling Section, and a Men's Bowling  Section.      Through the season the Club takes part in over 130 competitive fixtures.

The Club hosts touring sides, Midland Counties, English Police, Warwickshire County, Coventry & District and Warwickshire Vice Presidents Bowling Associations  and Warwickshire County Bowling Association  competitions

There is a Committee and a male and female Child Protection Officer.      The Club has a small  number of under 18yr old bowlers, and Coaching sessions are held during the season, mainly on a Tuesday evening.      The Club has a voluntary dedicated ground staff, is Licensed and the Lounge room is available to members for their private social functions. Club Social functions are held on the Club premises during the year.
